i had an epiphany today

I’ve become the person I wanted to be when I was little.

I get to be the girl in the beer splattered dress who talks to the boys sometimes,

I get to be the coffeeshop girl with the book and the friends in flannel sometimes,

I get to be the smart girl who raises her hand in her liberal arts college class who says something, and then spots people nodding and saying things like “Huh, I didn’t think of it that way.” sometimes. 

I get to have the friends who know nothing about me, and like me.

I get to have the friends who know everything about me, and like me more.

I get to have the kisses that are mediocre, so that I can compare them to the ones that are great. And know the difference.

I get to drive by myself, blasting bad music and chain smoking,

I get to drive with my friends, blasting worse music and chain smoking.

I get to travel the world and work with people across continents, 

But I still get to walk into a local coffeeshop, and the guy behind the counter knows my order. And my name.
